Children’s Eyecare 

Many vision problems in children can go unnoticed, as they may not realise their eyesight isn’t as clear as it should be. Early detection of issues such as myopia (short-sightedness), lazy eye (amblyopia), or squints (strabismus) is vital to ensure these conditions can be effectively managed and treated.

Regular eye examinations can:

• Help identify and correct vision problems early.
• Support your child’s ability to learn and engage in school activities.
• Prevent long-term issues by addressing problems before they worsen.

We recommend that children have their first eye examination by the age of three, or sooner if there are any concerns about their vision or eye health. After that, regular check-ups every two years are usually sufficient, unless advised otherwise by your optometrist.

Signs your child may need an eye test include:

• Squinting or rubbing their eyes frequently.
• Difficulty reading or concentrating.
• Complaints of headaches or blurred vision.
• Sitting very close to screens or holding books very close to their face.
